A movement officially began on Thursday, when Charles Pugh turned in 1,100 signatures to the Detroit Department of Elections in the New Center area to officially make him a candidate for Detroit City Council.
Pugh announced his candidacy at Trumbull Crossings (formerly Research Park) on Sunday, May 3 to a crowd of supporters, family and friends.
“We’re ready to change Detroit,” Pugh said to a supporter on Sunday when he announced his candidacy. “Detroit is ready for change and I have assembled a great team of smart people who love Detroit who will help us change our city. But it can’t be done without the people. That’s why this movement is called ‘Pugh and YOU changing Detroit,’ because it all depends on you.”
Pugh and volunteers traveled throughout the city on Saturday to get signatures to put Pugh on the August primary ballot for city council.
Volunteer Deedra Simmons said, “I am proud to support Charles and getting these signatures was something I wanted to do.”
The Pugh and You campaign is now going full steam ahead and is planning to open their campaign office in early June.
